Three Men In A Float

It’s eight days now since I got back home from a three week jaunt across England in a milkfloat with friends Ian and Prasanth. Our epic, rambling journey (to explore the virtues of slow travel) took us from Lowestoft in the east to Land’s End in the west.

The total journey was a distance of 600 odd miles at an average speed of 15 mph (although a lot slower up hill).

Even though it took us three weeks to cover a distance that you could travel in a car in about twelve hours, the over-riding sense at the end was that we’d rushed it. It appears that when it comes to slow travel, we still have a lot to learn.

Now work begins on the book and radio 4 show of our journey Three Men In A Float both of which should surface in May 2008.
